How to analyse your TikTok Shop videos and sell more

By the Qeerah team 7 min read

In short: To analyse your TikTok Shop videos, read your statistics as a five-level funnel โ€” views, hook, retention, product clicks, orders โ€” and look for the level with the biggest drop compared with your best video. Fix that one first, one variable at a time.

On TikTok Shop, video is the main sales channel: in France it carried 61.6% of the platform's revenue over the 90 days to 9 July 2026, far ahead of live (20.2%) and the product card alone (18.2%), according to Kalodata estimates published by Lengow. Across the four largest European markets the share is similar (63.8%). Reading your own videos properly is not an academic exercise: it is where most of your commissions are won or lost.

Which data should you look at to analyse your TikTok Shop videos?

Your statistics fall into two families, usually found in two different places: content statistics (TikTok Studio, the analytics of each video) and sales statistics (the affiliate dashboard or Seller Center). The exact metric names vary by account type and country, but the same five levels appear everywhere.

LevelMetric to readWhat it measures
1. ReachViews, traffic source (For You, followers, search)How many people the algorithm gave you
2. HookShare of viewers still watching at 2-3 secondsWhether the opening stops the scroll
3. RetentionAverage watch time, retention curve, full viewsWhether the video holds until the sales pitch
4. Product interestClicks on the cart or product cardWhether the desire to buy appears
5. SaleOrders, revenue (GMV), commissionsWhether that desire turns into a purchase

The most common mistake is to look only at the first and last levels: "50,000 views, 3 sales, the video failed." That tells you nothing about where it failed, so it tells you nothing about what to change.

How do you read your statistics as a funnel?

Each level is calculated against the one before it. That is what turns a list of numbers into a diagnosis:

The five-level funnel of a TikTok Shop videoViewsโ†“ hook rateStill there at 3 sโ†“ useful retentionStill there at the productโ†“ product click rateProduct clickโ†“ conversion rateOrder
Each level is read against the previous one: where the biggest drop happens is your priority.

The level with the sharpest drop, compared with your other videos, is where you need to work. You don't need external benchmarks to start: your best video of the month is a more reliable yardstick than any published average, because it shares your niche, your audience and your style.

Example (made-up numbers, to illustrate the calculation) โ€” Video A: 40,000 views, 30% still watching at 3 s, 600 product clicks, 12 orders. Video B: 8,000 views, 55% at 3 s, 400 clicks, 20 orders.

A was shown five times more, but B gets three times the click rate (5% vs 1.5%) and converts better (5% vs 2%). A's problem is neither the product nor the reach: it is the hook, then the move to the product. Keep B's structure and give it A's reach.

What watch time is normal on TikTok?

Put your retention numbers in context. A Buffer study of 1.1 million TikTok videos measured a median watch time of 6.9 seconds for 30-to-60-second videos, and 3.1 seconds for 5-to-10-second videos (Buffer, 2025). In other words, most viewers never see the end of a 45-second video.

The direct consequence for sales: if your product only appears at second twenty, most people who "watched" your video never saw it. The question to ask your retention curve is not "is it good?" but "how many people were still there when I showed the product and told them what to do?"

What should you do depending on where it breaks?

Lots of views, few viewers at 3 seconds

The algorithm gives you a chance and the opening wastes it. Work on the first seconds: product visible or named immediately, a promise readable without sound, no introduction. The guide how to analyse your TikTok Shop hooks explains the method.

Good hook, retention collapses before the product

The middle of the video tells a different story from the one the hook promised, or takes too long. Bring the demonstration forward and cut anything that doesn't lead to the main benefit.

Good retention, few product clicks

People watch but don't know what to do, or don't see the link between the video and the product. Make sure the call to action is said and written: many viewers watch without sound, as TikTok Shop Academy points out in its guide to content styles (PPC Land).

Lots of clicks, few orders

The video created an expectation the product page doesn't meet: a higher price than announced, weak reviews, delivery times, or an exaggerated promise. Here the problem isn't your content; change the product or adjust what you promise.

How often should you analyse your videos?

A twenty-minute weekly routine is enough to improve quickly:

  1. Rank the week's videos by orders, not by views.
  2. For the best and the worst, write down the four funnel rates.
  3. Identify the level that makes the difference between them.
  4. Choose one change to test on the next three videos.
  5. The following week, compare. Keep what worked, drop the rest.

Wait at least 48 to 72 hours before judging a video: TikTok distributes in waves, and a video can pick up again several days after it is posted.

What your statistics don't tell you

Numbers tell you where viewers leave, never why. A drop at second four can come from a shot that lasts too long, a confusing sentence or a product shown too late. To answer the why, you need to rewatch the video second by second and compare it with videos that sell in your niche โ€” the method is described in how to analyse a TikTok Shop video.

That is the step Qeerah automates: from the video link, the tool scores the hook, retention, sales pitch and call to action, finds the second attention drops and suggests concrete fixes. Once you have found the level that blocks, the five levers to improve your TikTok Shop results tell you in which order to act.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find the statistics for my TikTok Shop videos?

Content statistics (views, average watch time, retention curve) are in TikTok Studio, in each video's analytics. Sales statistics (product clicks, orders, revenue, commissions) are in the affiliate dashboard or Seller Center.

What is the most important metric for a TikTok Shop video?

No single metric is enough. The most useful view is the chain of rates: hook at 3 seconds, retention when the product appears, product click rate, then conversion rate. The level with the sharpest drop tells you what to fix.

How long should I wait before analysing a TikTok Shop video?

At least 48 to 72 hours. TikTok distributes videos in waves, and a video can pick up again several days after posting, so judging it too early skews the diagnosis.
